Appalachian Communities Opioid Response Summit
Wednesday, May 19, 2021, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM CDT
Category: Events

Opioid misuse in the United States, particularly in Appalachia and especially in rural areas, is an urgent issue. Rural communities are trying their best to address opioid misuse, but in order to be effective they need to implement innovative community-based programs. These communities must leverage outside resources to address a problem of such magnitude. State Rural Health Associations from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia – seek to increase the capacity to address opioid use disorders (OUD) in these communities by leveraging existing substance use disorder coalitions in the region and assisting those entities in operationalizing the strategic plans developed in and by those communities.

We are planning a one day summit to bring rural health leaders from these communities to discuss the Substance Use Disorder/Opioid Use Disorder most impacting the Appalachian Region.
